Big department stores have fixed prices and the low paid employees are in no position to offer you a discount even if they want to.It's a different story in small street markets and small stores where you can talk directly to the shop owner. Some visitors to the tourist shopping zones get a bit intimidated by the fact that they are in what looks to by a shop with fixed prices. Don't be. Most of the shops that cater to foreigners will offer some leeway in their prices.Elsewhere,it doesn't hurt to ask politely for a discount. The Korean say you can get great deals here, but you wouldn't know it by the price tags. Bargaining is necessary. All of the shops are closed on Sunday, but the street market operates daily. Tax Most items purchased are subject to a 10% value added tax(VAT) which is included in the selling price.
