Haoe Maul is as close as you'll find to a 16th century Korean settlement.  The village has been the home of Pungsan Ryu clan since Ryu Chong-hye moved into the village in the late
Koryo period. Of the Ryu clan members, Ryu Song-ryoung(1541 1607) and his elder brother, Ryu Un-ryong
(1539 1601), are well known, Ryu Song-ryong became a famous court minister and played a prominent role in
protecting Korea when the Japanese invaded in 1592, Ryu Un-ryong was a great Confucian scholar and served
many years as a high official.  Hahoe is also unique in that the upper class houses are located in the center and the lower class ones on the outskirts.

In the village there are 18 cultural properties, such as Yangjindang(the residence of successors of the Ryu Clan;
Treasure No. 306), Ch'unghyodang(the residence of Ryu Song-ryong's successors; Trasure No. 414),
Chingbirok(National Treasure No. 132), Documents of the family of Ryu Song-ryong(Treasure No. 160), Hahoe Tal
(the oldest wooden masks in Korea; National Treasure No. 121) and Hahoe Pyolshingut Tal-nori(the Hahoe Mask Dance
 Drama; Inportant Intangible Cultural Property No. 69).

Unlike the folk village at Suwon, which is basically a tourist production, this is a genuine village with roots going back some 600 year and the most famous traditional town in Korea. This is the one of Korea's most picturesque villages; apart from the refrigerators, TVs and various other electrical appliances in the houses precious little has changed for centuries.Not only do the residents want to keep it that way, but the government actually funds the costs of preservation and restoration. At present there are about 130 traditional houses here.

Haoe is a favoured location for shooting historical films and has also been discovered by the tour bus companies, so during the summer holidays it can be overrun with day trippers. The only way to partially avoid the hordes is to stay overnight and try not to visit on a weekend. Outside the holiday season there are no drawbacks of this nature.

The admission fee to the village is W1600. W820 for student  (also under 25 yrs old ). You can visit various houses at no additional charge, but remember to respect people's privacy if youstep beyond the entrance gates. These are their homes, after all. The most important of the houses usually have a sign outside describing their history.lp.

Haoe town is. While you are walking to it , you have beautiful gold reed field .In front of the entrance to it, there is a good opportunity to see make hao tal, mask.  the town inside has no place like that.
